Part 2 of F's 'Energy Distortion' is the second in a series of
three vinyl releases that between them will make up the long
awaited debut album from F. With similar aspirations to Untold or
Ramandanman, F combines lithe Detroit techno with the more rugged
machinations of dubstep and swinging garage percussion whilst
still retaining his own personality. With 'On The Corner' and
'Spacewalker' we get two tuffened mutations of the garage rave
sound featuring those characteristically bristling 2-step loops,
constantly roll forward on-board relentless waves of sub-bass
buffered by whipping techno chords. 'Perspective' prefers to roll
with a more luxurious 4/4 flow, kinked with the kind of Afro-funky
syncopation more prevalent elsewhere in the dance, while 'Funk
Injection' returns to a more broken structure reminding of more
recent 2562 styles or the frictionless flex of Martyn. This
well-balanced meeting of Chain Reaction style techno, stripped
garage and dubstep wouldn't sound half as good is F wasn't such a
canny and talented producer, so if you're into owt from Mike
Dehnert to Narcossist or Headhunter to Untold this is quite an
essential.
