| The seaplane hangars in Tallinn were constructed |
| in 1916-1917 as part of the sea defences by a |
| Danish company Christiani & Nielsen, but were |
| left unfinished because of the oncoming world |
| war. Probably the first large scale concrete |
| hangars of a kind, they consist of three main |
| vaults with a size of 50 x 100 meters. The |
| hangars have been off limits to general public |
| and have a history of being passed from one owner |
| to another. At present they are a part of |
| Estonian Maritime Museum - an open, large scale |
| architectural object that reverberates with |
| sound. Project Unison recorded a sound |
| performance on August 1, 2007. in the seaplane |
| hangar to experiment and experience the |
| site-specific sound with natural instruments and |
| sound objects. Since the hangars have an open |
| structure, sounds from the outside environment |
| amd wind 'leak' constantly in. The recorded |
| improvisation has not been postprocessed / |
| compressed in an effort to preserve the sound and |
| logic of the event. |
