Aftermath 03:10 ───── 28:22 Release Notes: Norwegian death metal. Limited to 150 copies. -- METHERRA are based in Trondheim, Norway and started into their career in 2003. Founded by Guitar-player Kai Arne Johansen and Martin Lahum (Bass, Vocals) under the moniker TROLLSKAP, the boys offered more typical 'norwegian' styled sounds in the early days. A little .later those two guys changed their direction from more Black metal-styled music to brutal Death Metal. Beside that change of musical direction (including also some Line-up-changes) they started to call their band METHERRA. The fact that this moniker isn't really well-known over here is based on the fact that there's currently only one Demo available. "Two Victims To The Killer" was recorded in 2007 and at least seemed to be a good start for the band into their carrier. "World Of Discord" offer their current compositions and this new release sounds really promising. Based mostly on fast and heavy structured Death Metal in brutal version, METHERRA offer a brute kind of music that also contains an impressing dose of variety. It's also to realize, where those guys are located, because their songs seems to be coated with some sort of pitch-black atmosphere. Especially this fact makes me think of something like an "icy-coldness". Another important ingredient of this album is the use of progressive elements. Thus makes think of bands like BORKNAGAR as an inspiration on METHERRA too, but nevertheless those influences bring some more variations into their mostly brute sound. Also necessary to mention, because giving more of draft to this album are the clean vocal-passages, which are used seldom, but effectively. On the other side you can for sure find some brutal and simple Death Metal-fragments. Those are for sure the bases of this record, but aren't too sensational. AS longer as you listen to this record, you will be able to recognize that those elements are pushed back and that the band is willing to offer their sound as diversified as possible. Overall METHERRA did a really good job, what is to hear at last with the title-track. This piece of angry, pitch-black Death Metal (or should I say death-styled Black Metal?) would be able to blow every speaker, a better sound presumed. No doubt, that we will hear much more of this band in future. They are full of ideas and these boys are already able to assemble those into their style on a high level. Everything else will be brought by time for sure. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── This NFO File was rendered by NFOmation.net
