Release Notes:

ome people suffer for their art. some people take art from suffering.
the synth-propelled title track of the debut ep by new synth-tronica
whiz teej is an example of the latter. tom 'teej' marshall was actually
electrocuted before composing the aptly named 'i got electrocuted'.
says teej: "i haven't really got much in the way of studio equipment
and at the time i used this big rubbish keyboard that kept over
heating. i had it all opened up and tried to fix the fan. i turned it
on and it worked! as i went to turn the keyboard off to put it all back
together, 'i got electrocuted'. i've been shocked before but this was
different. i was stuck to it. before i knew it i was in an ambulance on
my way to hospital. after some heart scan i ended up back at home
feeling a bit strange and decided to see if i could still remember how
to play guitar etc. and then that night i made 'i got electrocuted'."
another track, the doomily psychedelic heart timing, takes its
inspiration from the resulting once-over at the hospital. but not
everything here is related to medical emergency. the frantic plural,
which features marshall's friend and former bandmate tom knight on
drums, the beat-driven sound speed ashes and the snowboarding-inspired
flying deep complete the package. "i made flying deep just before i was
off to japan and was getting excited to snowboard through loads of deep
powder snow. pretty much just visualized bursting through loads of deep
snow on my board in slow motion when i was making it." marshall is a 23
year-old musician who began producing music when he found himself
living in his parent's garage on hayling island having graduated
university in brighton. the name teej comes from his long-standing
nickname. "i tried thinking of a few names to make music under but teej
just made sense. i didn't want to be called something like dragon
eating mutated eagle cyclops, cause then i might try and make music
that reflected the name. instead i just make music and whatever happens
can still be made by teej." when he's not hunched over the computer or
shopping for vintage synths, marshall can usually be found hitting the
slopes. "i love snowboarding. so i try to travel/work with snowboarding
as much as possible. i suppose snowboarding, traveling to new places,
films and music are a big inspiration for my own music."

it's still early days for teej - he's yet to even play live - but on
the strength of this ep, he's an artist we'll be hearing plenty more
from.
