artist : Antony & The Johnsons title : Thank You For Your Love label : Rough Trade cat# : RTRADDS588 genre : Indie street date : 2010-08-30 tracks : 5 bitrate : 320 kbps avg. 44.1/Joint Stereo size : 42.79 mb source : WEB (MP3) type : Retail url : http://bleep.com ________________________________________________________________________________ This new EP paves the way for Antony's forthcoming full-length, Swanlights, taking its lead track from the album but supplying a further four non-LP recordings - one of which features none other than William Basinski. 'Thank You For Your Love' is a graceful, gospel-tinged ballad that swells up with horns and feverish expressions of gratitude as it wheels towards the chorus. As it progresses, the song turns out to be one of Antony's most outwardly jubilant songs, making for a refreshingly unabashed upbeat entry into his catalogue. Another new song, 'You Are The Treasure' takes on a beautiful minimalist piano part as once again Antony eloquently professes his affections for the addressee. 'My Lord My Love' might be a little more familiar, as it previously appeared as a bonus track on The Crying Light if you pre-ordered your copy from Secretly Canadian. However, since Rough Trade released the album over here, this song's likely to be new to most of us Brits. Next, Currituck Co. guitarist Kevin Barker plays on a cover of Bob Dylan's comparatively obscure 'Pressing On', a cut from his 1980 LP, Saved. It's a beautiful arrangement that fleshes out Antony's wonderful vocal with the gentlest of picked guitar parts and the clockwork trundle of music box tones and what sounds like tuned percussion, or perhaps electric piano. The EP closes with a second unusual cover: John Lennon's 'Imagine', featuring none other than Boomkat fave William Basinski. Understandably, Antony leaves his piano in favour of a guitar accompanied rendition of the song, with Basinski supplying a strange, dissolved electronic backdrop that flickers and whirrs patiently in the background. http://www.antonyandthejohnsons.com ________________________________________________________________________________ 01 Thank You For Your Love 4:14 02 You Are The Treasure 2:09 03 My Lord My Love 3:14 04 Pressing On 4:26 05 Imagine 4:36 ----- 18:39 This NFO File was rendered by NFOmation.net
