Ultra Music Festival 2011 | Phase One

http://usatrancemovement.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/ultra-festival-phaseone.jpg

We are just under 80 days to go until the first ever three day long Ultra Music Festival arrives in Miami. >>
Over the last couple of weeks, weÆve been teased with a little taste of what UMF 2011 will look like >>
this March. At first glance, the house heavy lineup of artists announced in Phase 1 seemed to leave little >>
room for the usual showing of trance DJÆs that we are accustomed to seeing. But, with the New Year came >>
new news and assurances.
As we rung in the New Year 2011, we were very pleased to hear from UMF that Armin van Buuren and A State >>
of Trance, which will commemorate the 500th episode of his radio show, will in fact be a part of UMF >>
2011 as all the rumors and speculation had suggested. With ASOT500, will come an obscene amount of the >>
best trance DJÆs the world has to offer. Last springÆs ASOT450 was a massive event, one that is still >>
talked about and compared to by critics and fans today. And if weÆve learned anything by watching the >>
Armada family over the years with their attention to detail, and spare no expense attitude, we can be >>
assured that ASOT500 will live up to and exceed all expectations.
It is also worth noting that UMF will be releasing 2 additional phases to the artist roster in the weeks >>
ahead. Having added a third day to the event, they have plenty of timeslots to fill with the worlds best >>
and brightest. It should be fair to say that between ASOT500 and the additional day, that this yearÆs >>
UMF will be graced with more trance talent than in any previous year. Be sure to keep an eye out for >>
a separate preview of ASOT500.
So while some of us may be disappointed that WMC and UMF will not be held at the same time this year, >>
we will do our best to let the controversy slowly fade into obscurity. And rather than dwell on what >>
could have been, weÆd rather focus on what will be. So here is a quick rundown of some the artists UMF >>
did manage to lock down for their Phase 1 announcement. We think youÆll enjoy.

AFROJACK
House/Electro/Techno
Label: Wall Recordings
Respected by his colleague DJÆs for his production skills and loved by clubbers for his dance floor bombs >>
and energetic performances, Afrojack is setting new standards in the industry. His rise to fame as a >>
producer has brought him a roll call of A-list champions û from Pete Tong to David Guetta, and Josh Wink >>
to Fedde Le Grand, along the way collaborating with some of the worldÆs most respected producers and >>
artists like David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Kid Cudi, Pitbull and Black Eyed Peas. Ghettoblaster!

ARMIN VAN BUUREN
Trance
Label: Armada
With four straight DJ Mag #1 awards, incredible artist albums (Mirage tracks took 6 of the top 20 listener >>
votes on ASOT from 2010 with Orbion, Mirage, Full Focus, Coming Home, This Light Between Us, and Not >>
Giving up on Love), a top ranked podcast ôA State of Trance,ö the Armada record label, and many events >>
that could be their own ôfestivalö it is hard to argue that Armin has been the face of Trance for the >>
second half of the decade. Many artists evolve over time to match what they think their fan base wants >>
to hear. The first three DJÆs I listened to in the trance world were PVD, Tiesto, and Armin. I still >>
love all their tracks, but, without a doubt, I feel like IÆve continued to grow more with ArminÆs albums >>
and podcasts than any other over the past 10 years. Definitely been looking forward to ASOT 500 Miami, >>
which is the reason why this was the year I picked as my first in Miami. Stay tuned for a preview of >>
ASOT500 in the next month.

This Italian Grammy Award winner has been in the game for well over two decades and at the top of the >>

43, he might be considered an old timer, but like fine wine, heÆs simply better with age. This man has >>

Boys Noize is a great name for DJ Alexander Ridiha of Germany. His sound is edgy, progressive, yes, noisy >>
in fact. Get a good beat going at just the right tempoà four on the floor with some synthy grooves, and >>
maybe a ôdance dance danceö vocal, and you got yourself a hit. Seriously, though, Boys Noize does a great >>

Little known fact, Carl Cox was the first winner of the DJ Mag contest back in 1997. HeÆs nearly 50 years >>
old and still selling out clubs full of eager EDM lovers. I have never been a personal fan of Carl, but >>
I canÆt argue with his success or the fact that he fits perfectly into the Ultra lineup. Not trance, >>
but his success has been so profound in the EDM world for so long that he deserves much respect and praise >>
for his productions and skills as an international DJ.

with thumpin drum lines, wavy synth sounds, and perfect vocal hooks ôJust remember to fall in love, thereÆs >>
nothing elseà thereÆs nothing elseàö They also have a nice variety in styles between their songs with >>
tracks like ôKeep My Composureö having more of a hip hop vibe with EDM undertones. They make you move >>

certainly no love lost between him and his compatriots, stemming from the fact that Joel never wanted >>
to be one of those button pushing DJÆs matching tempos. He definitely maintains his own sound and unique >>
production style which is clear when listening to the originality behind his tracks. The first Deadmau5 >>
track I ever listened to was ôI Rememberö which introduced me to both Deadmau5 and Kaskade (not a bad >>
combo!). Deadmau5 loves the festivals and major events such as working the MTV awards. Both artists have >>
