The Milk Carton Kids Rock

The universe is a chaotic place, but stepping into the world of the Milk Carton
Kids makes it all better. Or does it? On its third album, ôMonterey,ö the Los
Angeles acoustic folk duo consisting of of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan
continues to inspire comparisons to Simon and Garfunkel and the Everly Brothers.
But beneath the exquisite guitar work, lovely harmonies and gentle sway of the
music, things are simmering. Recorded in concert halls and churches on the
groupÆs 55-city North American tour last spring, the album plays like a
travelogue with the musicians ruminating on the beauty and sadness that passes
by the bus windows in poignant songs like ôAsheville Skies,ö ôGetawayö and
ôFreedom,ö in which they muse, ôScreaming while the shots ring out, thatÆs what
freedom sounds like now.ö
