In August, Robert Cray will release his eagerly anticipated live CD/DVD package
via Mascot Label Group.

With five Grammy awards under his belt, fifteen studio albums, and a career
spanning four decades, Robert Cray is one of the great
singer-guitarist-songwriters of our time. Celebrating his 40th year in the
business, Cray is set to release 4 Nights of 40 Years on August 28.

As anyone who has experienced Cray live will know, to see him perform is a
treat, and this package captures the essence of that experience perfectly. The
CD was recorded recently at four venues across the LA area.

Robert Cray has a phenomenal vocal range whether he is hitting the high notes of
ôPoor Johnnyö or delivering beautiful ballads like ôTime Takes Two.ö He has a
superb appreciation of space, great tone and conveys a good deal of emotion in
both his singing and his playing. Cray sings about real life subjects to which
everyone can relate.

RobertÆs seasoned band of musicians provide the perfect foil for his passionate
playing. They lay down a soulful groove, particularly on ôThe Road Down,ö
ôForecast Calls For Pain,ö or ôWrap It Up,ö whereby Kim Wilson from the Fabulous
Thunderbirds joins the band.

Playing alongside Robert Cray on the album is longtime keyboardist Dover
Weinberg, bassist Richard Cousins, and drummer Les Falconer. Joining them is the
talented trio of tenor saxophonist Trevor Lawrence, trumpeter Steve Madaio, and
saxophonist Tom Scott.

As you would want and expect, the live CD is packed full of CrayÆs wonderful
guitar solos. During the solo in ôRight Next Door,ö Robert brings the volume
right down to the point where you could hear a pin drop. It allows you to sit
back and enjoy the beautiful tone of his guitar.

A comprehensive docu-concert DVD accompanies the CD set, which features footage
from the recent LA shows interspersed with interviews of Eric Clapton, Buddy
Guy, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, and the great man himself. The DVD also takes
a retrospective look at CrayÆs career with some excellent archive footage from
the 1982 San Francisco Blues Festival and his 1987 appearance on Dutch TV Show
ôCountdown.ö There is some overlap between the tracks of the live CD and the
DVD.

The package includes everything that any Robert Cray fan would want from a live
album, with tracks spanning CrayÆs extensive back catalog of over 20 releases.
ItÆs difficult to pick out stand out tracks, as there are so many. The release
is a must for any Robert Cray fan or music lover alike.
