║ The Healing are a progressive metalcore band from London, Ontario ║
║ Canada forming in 2014 subsequently releasing 2 solid EP's - 2014's ║
║ 'Transcendence' and 'Elevate' 2 years later. The bands debut album ║
║ 'Hollow Earth' is one of the finest entries and debuts from any ║
║ progressive metalcore band in recent years. With my following track ║
║ by track review I will try to illuminate my reasoning as to why I ║
║ rate this phenomenal debut album so highly. ║
║ ║
║ The album opens up with 'Degenerate' - a track in which perfectly ║
║ sums up what The Healing are all about, Technical song structures ║
║ that are as complex as they are unique. The abrasive vocals are ║
║ gutbustingly heavy as they intertwine with the explosive guitars and ║
║ bass that paint a canvas of multi layered colourful metalcore. The ║
║ chorus is host to a soaring melodic vocal that fits the tone of the ║
║ song and further enhances the contrasting sounds of 'Degenerate.' ║
║ ║
║ 'Phantom Self' wastes no time as it erupts into a meteoric storm of ║
║ furious guitars and galloping drums. The vocals are executed in ║
║ style as the interchanging screams and emotive chorus battle for the ║
║ listeners affection. This track in particular is a real high spot on ║
║ the album and will appeal to fans of Jesse Cash's ERRA. Fantastic ║
║ tune. ║
║ ║
║ The third song on 'Hollow Earth' is 'Absolution' this marauding ║
║ powerhouse slows the tempo down and offers a different sound and ║
║ direction than the first 2 tracks. While this is by no means a ║
║ ballad the tone and delivery of the track is a refreshing change of ║
║ style and pace. The melodic vocal is spellbinding in 'Absolution' ║
║ and certainly stayed as a favourite of mine through the first listen ║
║ of the album. ║
║ ║
║ Arguably the heaviest track on the album 'Glass House' is a barrage ║
║ of brutality and does not relinquish in any of its fiery nuclear ║
║ like delivery from start to finish, wear a nappy for the ending ║
║ breakdown! WOW. ║
║ ║
║ 'Interlude' delivers on its name. A gorgeous female soaring vocal ║
║ and a tranquil stand alone guitar bring a moment of solace and ║
║ clarity before the album detonates back into life again. ║
║ ║
║ The title track 'Hollow Earth' re ignites the fury and is deserving ║
║ of the albums centrepiece. Djent infused guitars layered on top of ║
║ the intelligent and astute drumming. A melodic lead guitar ║
║ transcends the track to the next level as the chorus takes you on a ║
║ journey through space and time, Truly stunning! ║
║ ║
║ If you're ever going to get goosebumps from a lead guitar riffs then ║
║ its going to be from 'Divinity' this songs opening riff fest takes ║
║ the listener on a journey through the clouds and beyond as the ║
║ exquisite soaring melodic singing from Kris Garant takes over, this ║
║ is undoubtedly one of my favourite moments on the whole of 'Hollow ║
║ Earth.' ║
║ ║
║ 'Mirror Image' will appeal to fans of Invent Animate and Northlane ║
║ with its heavy and low tuned guitars are at the forefront of the ║
║ whole track. The guitar work in this album is so inventive and is ║
║ constantly evolving as new ideas and creative riffs are evident with ║
║ each new track. This song is also host to another elegant chorus. ║
║ ║
║ You may not be ready for the sheer carnage that 'Waters Above' ║
║ ensues on the listeners sense. This song is punishingly heavy and ║
║ challenges 'Glass House' for the heaviest song on the album. Its ║
║ cataclysmic message is evident from start to finish and boasts some ║
║ of the best lyrical content on the album. ║
║ ║
║ 'Babel' is perhaps the most straight up metalcore like song on the ║
║ album giving off vibes from bands like Feed Her To The Sharks, For ║
║ The Fallen Dreams and For Today. This does not subtract from The ║
║ Healing's own brand of progressive metalcore perfection in the ║
║ slightest and has all the right ingredients to be a fan favourite ║
║ from 'Hollow Earth.' - Prepare yourself for the hairs on the back of ║
║ your neck to stand on the outro! ║
║ ║
║ The album is brought to it's breath taking close with final track ║
║ 'Return to Source.' This displays the most varied styles and song ║
║ structures throughout the whole of the album. And shows the depth of ║
║ talent in The Healing's song writing, at nearly 5 minutes long this ║
║ is the longest entry on the whole of 'Hollow Earth' and the boys ║
║ make this count with additions of a tastefully used guitar solo. And ║
║ dazzling dual layered vocals this tune could not of been a better ║
║ choice for the final serenade of 'Hollow Earth.' ║
║ ║
║ To summarise progressive metalcore have some new future superstars ║
║ of the scene with the release of their stunning debut album 'Hollow ║
║ Earth.' This album will certainly challenge other heavyweights like ║
║ ERRA with their fantastic latest entry 'Neon' for the best album in ║
║ the genre of 2018. If you're a fan of this style of music become ║
║ acquainted with The Healing as they have all the hallmarks of future ║
║ greats. ║
║ ║

º and a tranquil stand alone guitar bring a moment of solace and º
º clarity before the album detonates back into life again. º
º º
º The title track 'Hollow Earth' re ignites the fury and is deserving º
º of the albums centrepiece. Djent infused guitars layered on top of º
º the intelligent and astute drumming. A melodic lead guitar º
º transcends the track to the next level as the chorus takes you on a º
º journey through space and time, Truly stunning! º
º º
º If you're ever going to get goosebumps from a lead guitar riffs then º
º its going to be from 'Divinity' this songs opening riff fest takes º
º the listener on a journey through the clouds and beyond as the º
º exquisite soaring melodic singing from Kris Garant takes over, this º
º is undoubtedly one of my favourite moments on the whole of 'Hollow º
º Earth.' º
º º
º 'Mirror Image' will appeal to fans of Invent Animate and Northlane º
º with its heavy and low tuned guitars are at the forefront of the º
º whole track. The guitar work in this album is so inventive and is º
º constantly evolving as new ideas and creative riffs are evident with º
º each new track. This song is also host to another elegant chorus. º
º º
º You may not be ready for the sheer carnage that 'Waters Above' º
º ensues on the listeners sense. This song is punishingly heavy and º
º challenges 'Glass House' for the heaviest song on the album. Its º
º cataclysmic message is evident from start to finish and boasts some º
º of the best lyrical content on the album. º
º º
º 'Babel' is perhaps the most straight up metalcore like song on the º
º album giving off vibes from bands like Feed Her To The Sharks, For º
º The Fallen Dreams and For Today. This does not subtract from The º
º Healing's own brand of progressive metalcore perfection in the º
º slightest and has all the right ingredients to be a fan favourite º
º from 'Hollow Earth.' - Prepare yourself for the hairs on the back of º
º your neck to stand on the outro! º
º º
º The album is brought to it's breath taking close with final track º
º 'Return to Source.' This displays the most varied styles and song º
º structures throughout the whole of the album. And shows the depth of º
º talent in The Healing's song writing, at nearly 5 minutes long this º
º is the longest entry on the whole of 'Hollow Earth' and the boys º
º make this count with additions of a tastefully used guitar solo. And º
º dazzling dual layered vocals this tune could not of been a better º
º choice for the final serenade of 'Hollow Earth.' º
º º
º To summarise progressive metalcore have some new future superstars º
º of the scene with the release of their stunning debut album 'Hollow º
º Earth.' This album will certainly challenge other heavyweights like º
º ERRA with their fantastic latest entry 'Neon' for the best album in º
º the genre of 2018. If you're a fan of this style of music become º
º acquainted with The Healing as they have all the hallmarks of future º
º greats. º
