Chris Cornell - Score Piece #4 02:06 - -- Release notes ---------------------------------------------------- -- - The year was 1992, grunge was starting to explode, and director Cameron Crowe was already on the pulse of things in releasing a romantic comedy called Singles set in Seattle against the backdrop of the booming grunge scene, incorporating some of the burgeoning stars of the music scene with guest cameos. The soundtrack just added to the grunge explosion, with emerging bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees and Soundgarden leading the way. Now, 25 years later, the Singles soundtrack is getting a highly anticipated expanded and remastered reissue. Included are the original songs that made up the soundtrack, with classic cuts like Alice in Chains' "Would?," Smashing Pumpkins' "Drown," Screaming Trees' "Nearly Lost You," Chris Cornell's "Seasons," Pearl Jam's "State of Love and Trust," Mother Love Bone's "Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns" and Paul Westerberg's "Dyslexic Heart" leading the way. But the draw here may be the extensive second disc featuring previously unreleased music, including demos and acoustic versions of tracks. There are cuts by the fictional band Citizen Dick, led by Cliff Poncier (aka Matt Dillon), a number of Chris Cornell tracks (including an early version of "Spoonman"), live songs from Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, songs by Truly and Blood Circus that just missed the cut and other gems. The newly expanded Singles: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack-Deluxe Edition is being offered in 2CD, 2LP and digital configurations. The deluxe edition includes liner notes and a track-by-track description of the album's music written especially for this collection by Cameron Crowe, the screenwriter and director of Singles. "The album itself was always designed to be sort of an anti- soundtrack, more like a souvenir and a simple mix-tape of some of Seattle's finest," said Crowe. "It really is and was a tribute to those hard-working bands that welcomed me to their city with open arms, and the music so many still love so much. Anyway, here we are now revisiting Singles, the film, as well as the soundtrack you hold in your hands, expanded with a special tip of the hat to the fans of the original release. Included are unreleased and raw elements that helped shape the experience of making the movie back in 1991. Hope you enjoy the trip back as much as I did - Viva Seattle!" - -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ -- - KLV is a division of KALEVALA, focusing on all things non-finnish.
